This is the Naughtiest Dog Breed in America

For many years running, they’ve been voted the most popular dog breed in America. But now a survey has shown that they are also the naughtiest dogs in America. We’re talking about Labradors, of course. Yes, these dogs with loving, friendly dogs with the large, expressive eyes can be the cause of chaos in your household.

The truth is that caring for a dog, any dog, is a labor of love. You have to learn to live with the fact that your home will never be as clean as non-dog households. But some dogs can be naughtier than others. Whether it is chewing on your mobile phone charger cord, scratching your kitchen door, or urinating on your new sofa, dogs can be annoyingly destructive.

A new survey by Money.co.uk found some interesting findings.

Naughtiest Dog Breeds

Labrador Retrievers take the number 1 spot as the naughtiest dogs in American and the rest of the world. They were mentioned the maximum number of times for causing carnage. Next up, Beagles and Collies, followed by Shih Tzus and Terriers. Also mentioned on the Naughty List were Bull Terriers, Cavapoos, German Shepherds, and Dachshunds.

The solution? Early training and home insurance. Many destructive behaviors can be nipped in the bud if your puppy receives early training. A home insurance policy can give you peace of mind should your pet destroy something expensive.

Most Destroyed Things

There are hundreds of things around a home that your dog can destroy. But some things are more likely to catch your dog’s eye than others. The following items were mentioned most by pet owners as the things their dogs love to destroy:

  • Cables and wires
  • Doors
  • Carpets
  • Sofas

Again, puppy training classes can help to minimize destructive behaviors like chewing, digging, ripping, urinating on rugs, etc. It also helps to keep cables tidy behind furniture. Vertical scratch pads can protect doors and give your dog a place to vent without leaving behind scratch marks. Consider investing in a good carpet cleaner or mop to deal with any accidents.

Common Furry Culprits by Habit

It can be annoying when your dog breaks your phone, chews your new sofa, tips over the trash bin, ransacks your cupboard, or digs up your yard. You have to remember they don’t mean to do it. And your dog will more than make up for any destruction caused with unconditional love and lots of fun times and memories. Also remember, sometimes a bad habit is in their DNA.

Here is a list of common culprits by behavior:

Chewers: Collies, German Shepherds, Terriers, Beagles, and Staffies

Urinators: Labradors, Shih Tzus, Collies, Dachshunds, and Pugs

Eaters: Beagles, Labradors, Collies, Labradoodles, and Spitzes

Destroyers: Collies, Labradors, German Shepherds, Bull Terriers, and Beagles

Breakers: Staffies, Pomeranians, Labradors, Cocker Spaniels, and Beagles

Snappers: Collies, Labradors, German Shepherds, Spitzes, Shih Tzus

Diggers: Shih Tzus, Beagles, Terriers, Labradors, and Bull Terriers

As you can see, Labradors are mentioned in a lot of bad behaviors. No wonder they’ve been voted the naughtiest dogs in America!

Beloved Pets That Aren’t Naughty

Our vote goes to Golden Retrievers. They don’t find mention in any of the Naughty Lists above. Plus, Goldens are known for their friendly and affectionate nature and high intelligence. This means they’re easy to train and make wonderful pets for families that are looking for a well-behaved dog.

Whichever breed you choose, the important thing is to purchase your new puppy from a reputed and responsible breeder. This will ensure you get a happy, healthy puppy that is not genetically predisposed to behavioral issues.
