In the meantime, here’s some key information you should know about this breed.

  1. Cane Corsos belong to the AKC’s working group. They are large, powerful, active, and intelligent dogs.
  2. The average height of a Cane Corso is 23 to 28 inches and the average weight is 80-120 pounds.
  3. Cane Corsos are of Mastiff heritage and were bred to be guard dogs. They are more agile and athletic than their Mastiff cousins, however.
  4. These dogs are fiercely loyal to their families and can be territorial. They tend to be wary of strangers and small animals. These qualities make Cane Corsos excellent watchdogs.
  5. While they have a relatively low barking tendency, Cane Corsos are not particularly well adapted to apartment living, given their size.
  6. They are a great choice for Pennsylvania families with kids and also get along reasonably well with other dogs in the family.
  7. Prospective Cane Corso owners in Pennsylvania will be delighted to learn that these dogs are low shedders.
  8. Cane Corsos need a moderate amount of exercise daily, such as a 1 mile walk and 20 minutes of training exercises.
  9. Training a Cane Corso puppy requires gentle yet firm and consistent guidance.
  10. This breed may not be the best choice for novice dog owners in Pennsylvania who might do better with easier dog breeds like spaniels and retrievers.

Cane Corso

Luis O Cintron is from Pennsylvania and breeds Cane Corsos. I have had larger dog breeds all of my life, from Rottweilers to pit-bull terriers. After being tired of educating people on the pit-bull breed despite my well-trained and socialized family dogs, I started searching for a working class dog that was good for families and had a lot of the same characteristics as a pit-bull but without the stigma. I found the Cane Corso, and researched this breed for 10 years and waited to purchase one until I had the correct housing and environment for one, along with the right breeder who was a tremendous resource and as patient as I was. I then waited until I found a bitch and stud litter that I was confident would produce a champion. Our family then received Zara who was purchased primarily as a family pet that would also be going to work with me every day in my contracting business dealing with foreclosures. We run our business from home, home school our three children, and include our dogs within our every day family life. Since owning a Corso, I have found that the public is not only impressed with her size and calm and friendly temperament, but they are very comfortable with her the instant they know she is not a pit-bull. There is no price you can put when you find the right breeder, find the right dog, and the timing is right. As a Cane Corso breeder, I have placed a high priority on breeding only for the best composition for the furtherance of the Cane Corso breed by finding a stud that is complimentary to my bitch.
