Great Pyrenees

Colin Vickers is from Maine and Southwest Virginia and breeds Great Pyrenees. Tambien Hablamos Espanol. Nestled in the Appalachian Mountains of Southwest Virginia, our farm is centered between two natural spring-fed creeks and a central lake. The climate and altitude here is such that our temperatures are rarely above 85 in the summer, and we have mild winters with moderate snowfall. Our dogs have large acreage pastures to run, and each group with their own houses. In Maine we have a 5 acre mini Farm where we spend summers and the occasional winter with some of our dogs. We do not believe in the traditional "kennel" where the dogs live in a concrete floored building all their lives and rarely see the outside. Our Pyrs live in a natural environment for them, with many acres to run and play within their groups, livestock to watch over, and comfortable shelters with ample space for them to get out of the elements if they want to. We are what is called a "Preservation Breeder". Meaning that we breed only to preserve the standard and enhance the Great Pyrenees breed with healthy puppies for Show, Livestock Guarding and Companion / Service Dogs. We rarely breed more than 2 or 3 litters in a year so that we can devote our time to them, teaching them to be good Canine Citizens through Puppy Enrichment, continuous contact and stimulation from an early age, rigorous routine and schedule of feeding, cleaning and training, and never let them go to new homes until they are well past 8 weeks of age, optimally between 10 and 12 weeks of age. Our puppies receive proper socialization, remaining with their littermates and mommy throughout their rearing, and leave our care already potty and crate trained. We also actively participate in Great Pyrenees Rescue; taking in and rehabilitating lost, abandoned, and abused dogs, working with local SPCA, Municipal and County Shelters, Regional and National Great Pyrenees Rescue, and support and partner with many other rescue groups to ensure that as many unwanted dogs find homes as we can. AKC proudly supports dedicated and responsible breeders. We encourage all prospective puppy owners to do their research and be prepared with questions to ask the breeder. Make sure you are not only choosing the right breed for you, but also that you’re getting it from the right individual.
