Sussex Spaniel

Marcia Deugan is from Florida and breeds Sussex Spaniels. In 1970 my late husband and I imported our first two Sussex. I have been active in the breed ever since, including conformation, obedience, rally and CGC. I was instrumental in starting the Sussex Spaniel Club of America in 1981 and have held (at different times, of course) every office as well as a stint as newsletter editor. You could say that I have pretty much devoted my life to this breed. ZIYADAH KENNELS, reg. tries to produce at least one litter a year. This can sometimes be a good percentage of the Sussex born, as in 2018 there were only 34 Sussex puppies born in the US and in 2019, a bit better with 58 being born. Those are the numbers for the entire USA. This has always been a self – limiting breed, with us losing about the same number of old dogs each year as there are new ones born, which is why we are still a low entry breed, but when we imported in 1970 we had two of the only 4 in the US and now, many years later, there are close to 600 Sussex in the US, but it took 50 years to get to this point. I am hoping to breed a litter this Spring , if all goes well. I strongly suggest that if you are interested in a puppy that you contact me for a questionnaire ASAP. I recommend getting on my or another breeders waiting list as Sussex puppies are so rare. I will be happy to send you a Puppy Questionnaire to assure us both that a Sussex is the right breed for you. AKC proudly supports dedicated and responsible breeders. We encourage all prospective puppy owners to do their research and be prepared with questions to ask the breeder. Make sure you are not only choosing the right breed for you, but also that you’re getting it from the right individual.
